SITUATED ON THE HIGHEST HILL of the land, this magnificent area offers the most exquisite panoramic sunset views. These western facing cliffs and the spectacular sea ahead provide a breath-taking backdrop for anyone cycling or walking along the edge. Head up to Dingli Cliffs and while-away a stunning afternoon precisely as sun meets sea.
Here at Eco Sports, we always suggest hiring a bike to travel up to the cliffs, but of course we are also usually pro-choice. In other words, rent a bike and ride up the hill if you want to. Yes, of course you can get to the highest point in Malta in a more effortless way, like taxi or bus, but what joy is there in doing that? For one, you’ll miss out on experiencing the wonderfully fragranced farmlands and all of their delicious scents. The surrounding roads are mostly tranquil and still, which make for a pretty pleasant journey.
Some sights to see once you’ve arrived are – The Chapel of St Mary Magdalene (a tiny chapel perfectly perched on the cliffs edge), Filfla Island (the small, mostly barren, uninhabited rock, some 4.5 kilometers away), Dingli Radar or “Golf Ball” (Malta’s first air traffic detection system), view of Verdala Palace (the versatile castle has been used for everything from prison to stately home and everything in between).
Don’t forget to leave enough time to cycle back to civilization!
If you want to spend more time exploring, then stop in the larger town of Mosta on your way to Dingli Cliffs. There is a magnificent, miraculous church situated in the heart of the village. The Mosta Rotunda is one of the largest of its kind in the world and has a pretty incredible story to tell. Mdina, the first capital city of Malta is also worth visiting along the way. The ancient walled city promises to keep you enthralled.
If you’re cycling through Dingli earlier in the day, then continue north west until you find Tuffieha Bay and Golden Bay. Two of the most spectacular white sandy beaches on the island. The Xemxija Heritage trail and Majistral is your perfect playground to go mountain biking, so pedal on and experience some interesting and slightly challenging trails with our MTB’s and MTB Electric.
